Mayor's Message

Notice From trading post to goal post we have a rich heritage to which we owe our diversity and competitive spirit. One only has to look at our past to realize the potential of our future. With a population of close to ninety thousand, Kamloops enjoys a solid reputation as Canada’s Tournament Capital hosting several national and international events with top notch facilities where professional athletes, like the BC Lions, come to practice and train. We breed champions, lots of them, Olympians like Armstrong, Hewitt, and Pendrel, to name a few.

A modern university with a brand new law campus welcomes students from around the world. Our regional hospital is under expansion to support the growing demand for medical professionals and their services. Abundant natural resources attract business interests and jobs with an easy commute. Nearby lakes and streams offer world class fishing and four distinct seasons provide year long recreational activities to satisfy any outdoor enthusiast. Vineyards, wineries and mountain resorts are a stone’s throw away offering the perfect weekend destination to test your limits and indulge in fine wines and gourmet cuisine.

During summer you can enjoy free musical concerts, an outdoor vintage car show, and in recent years we’ve added Ribfest – a real crowd pleaser. Enjoy highly acclaimed foreign entries at our film festival, symphony concerts, WHL hockey, or live music and dancing. These are just some of the activities that await those who venture around our city – day or night. For the scholarly, take in a lecture or presentation at the university or the Kamloops Museum or engage in an intimate debate at the Philosopher’s Cafe. Meanwhile, budding young artists perform at local coffee shops, or you can peruse established works at the Art Gallery and enjoy live performances at the Sagebrush Theatre. And there’s more to come, early indications suggest strong support to build a performing arts centre.

It’s an exciting time for Kamloops, we’re working hard to engage the public to build a city that is attractive, robust and sustainable. Our fibre optic network and central location attracts advanced technologies and businesses. Spirits are high and there is optimism to develop an urban forest, a local food economy, a liveable city and of course, a resolve for fiscal responsibility. This is Kamloops, a great investment in the future for you and your family, a place to thrive and call home.
