Kamloops, B.C. - The City of Kamloops Community Safety, Kamloops RCMP and their Auxiliary Constables participated in the "Safe for the Season" project that took place over the 2009 Christmas season.
The program targeted shoppers during the Christmas season and educated them on how to secure their valuables and vehicles while they shopped. Specific messaging was done through a "crime prevention tip card" that was placed on vehicle windshields, a radio campaign which played on 97.5 the River and Country 103, an on location story with CFJC as well as direct interaction with the public. Over 2500 tip cards were given out on 5 separate occasions between November 23rd and December 23rd, which involved contact with numerous citizens and elicited a favourable response from the public.
In addition, parking lots were patrolled to deter any suspicious activity and retail outlets were educated on fraud awareness.
Due to the success with the 2009 "Safe for the Season" launch, it has been recommended that it become an annual project.
