The material selected for the new track surface is a Mondotrack Premium surface, the international standard for competition. The Mondo track was the surface of choice of the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and has been specifically designed for superior athletic performance.

The new Mondotrack surface is a prefabricated synthetic rubber track surface expected to last 20 years. This product was selected after a blind evaluation performed on four test patches installed at the TCC this past February. These patches were tested for durability, adhesion, and ease of maintentance to ensure the new track surface exceeds user expectations.

Hardwood Floor
The surface of north court will be replaced with a high-performance hardwood floor, completing the three court system. This third hardwood court will expand the Tournament Capital hosting opportunities for volleyball, basketball, and badminton.

Key Dates
  • May 18, 2017 - North court closed to public. There will be minimal impact on facility users, as the hours of work will be 7:00 pm-3:30 am. Regular construction noise should be expected within those hours.
  • June 27, 2017 - Field House closed to public.
All other areas of the facility will remain open, including the Canada Games Pool, Wellness Centre, Athlete Performance Centre, and Hillside Stadium.
  • August 16, 2017 - Odours potentially begin in the TCC.
We advise those who are particularly sensitive to scents to avoid the facility until we can determine the effectiveness of our mitigation plan.
  • September 2017 - Anticipated facility reopening.

The track replacement has been scheduled during the summer when usage is lowest, to minimize the impact to our patrons. There may be disruptions to our operation in other areas of the Tournament Capital Centre during this project. Our primary objective during this project is that patrons have the most positive experience as they commit to a healthy, active lifestyle. The facility will only close if the construction affects your experience.

This project is funded in part by a $500,000 grant awarded to the City of Kamloops by Western Economic Diversification Canada through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
