Daily News Site Demolition

Demolition
Project Scope

The City of Kamloops has contracted Dakota Reclamators Ltd. to demolish the former Kamloops Daily News Building at 390 Seymour Street. The contractor is scheduled to commence work on July 17, 2017, with an anticipated completion by October 2017.

In order to complete the demolition, there will be temporary pedestrian, traffic, and on-street parking restrictions along Seymour Street and 4th Avenue to ensure the safety of the public and on-site crews.

Effective Monday, August 21, 2017:

  • on-street parking will be unavailable on the south side of Seymour Street between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue
  • on-street parking will be unavailable on the west side of 4th Avenue between Seymour Street and St. Paul Street
  • there will be no right turns allowed from Seymour Street to 4th Avenue
  • the sidewalk will be closed in the immediate vicinity of the building, and signage will be posted at the previous intersections to allow pedestrians to cross the street at crosswalks
  • the bus stop currently located on the west side of 4th Avenue adjacent to the former Kamloops Daily News Building will be temporarily relocated further south on 4th Avenue

In addition, the parking lot at 300 St. Paul Street has been temporarily closed, effective August 1, 2017. The City has contacted monthly pass holders to provide alternative for this time period. Once the reopening date of the lot is confirmed, displaced monthly pass holders will be contacted with first right of refusal for returning to the lot.
