Proposed Ajax Mine
Environmental Assessment of the Proposed Ajax Mine Project
KGHM Ajax Mining Inc. (the proponent) is proposing to develop the Ajax Mine Project (the proposed Project), a copper-gold mine located partially within
the city of Kamloops, British Columbia (B.C.). The proposed Project has an expected mine life of 23 years with a production capacity of approximately 60,000
tonnes of mineral ore per day.
The proposed Project is subject to review under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and B.C.'s Environmental Assessment Act and is undergoing a cooperative environmental assessment process.
Environmental Assessment Process
The Environmental Assessment Process for the proposed Ajax mine is currently underway. The project is currently in the "Application Information Requirements and Application Preparation" sections of the process.
City's Letters of Inquiry
On July 11, 2011, the City of Kamloops submitted a letter to the Environmental Assessment Office. The letter contained a number of questions related to the proposed project. The City has received a response letter from KGHM. In addition, the City has previously written and received a number of letters which are provided below.

Former Afton Site Map
The site location of the proposed Ajax mine was formerly mined by Afton. The following figure compares the size of the former pit and associated tailings/stockpiles with the newly proposed pit and associated stockpiles and tailings facility.
